Testicular cancer – how and where to treat it
Testicular cancer is a malignant disease of the male genital glands. The disease is relatively rare: in 98% of cases, only one testicle is affected, bilateral lesions are recorded in only 2% of patients.
It most often develops in men aged 20-40 years, less often occurs in children. In childhood, the cause in 90% of cases is a teratoma. Among the risk factors are testicular neoplasia, endocrine disorders, genetic predisposition, trauma and overheating.
Varieties of tumours
The tumours are divided into two main groups:
- Germinogenic (95% of cases) – arise from glandular tissue, prone to early metastasis;
- Non-germinogenic – formed from the testicular parenchyma.
Also distinguish mixed variants, when the tumour contains cells of different types.
Symptoms of the disease
Suspect the disease can be suspected by the following signs:
- enlargement and deformation;
- visually noticeable or palpable nodule;
- swelling of the scrotum.
Pain at the initial stages is usually absent, so many men postpone a visit to the doctor, which reduces the chances of successful treatment. Meanwhile, the tumour can double in size in just a month.
As the disease progresses, there are:
- dull pain in the lower back and lower abdomen (due to increased lymph nodes and pressure on nerve endings);
- problems with urination;
- hormonal disorders (breast growth, voice changes, impotence);
- weight loss, chronic fatigue, fever.
At the first signs it is necessary to urgently seek medical help.
Stages of the disease
Israeli doctors distinguish four stages in the development of oncology:
- Appearance and growth within the organ.
- Metastasis to regional lymph nodes.
- Appearance of distant metastases, affecting the seminal canals.
- Invasion into the tissues of the scrotum.
Depending on the side of the lesion, different groups of lymph nodes involved in the process.
