- genetic predisposition;

Lifestyle and dietary changes can reduce the likelihood of developing cancer.
Stages of disease
The development of the disease has several stages:
- First - the tumour is limited to the surface of the mucous membrane;
- Second - the submucosal layer and the lumen of the oesophagus are affected;
- Third - the muscle layers and lymph nodes are affected, the passage of food is disturbed;
- Fourth - the cancer goes beyond the oesophagus, metastasises to neighbouring organs.
