Acute and chronic bronchiolitis
Bronchioles are the lower branches of the bronchi, which pass into the alveolar passages of the lungs, they do not contain cartilaginous tissue and have a small diameter (no more than 1mm). The function of the bronchioles is to distribute the air flow, sanitize the airways, and remove rhinobronchial secretions. The inflammatory process affecting the walls of the bronchioles is called bronchiolitis. This disease can be acute or chronic. Acute bronchiolitis can occur in infancy under the influence of respiratory infections and viruses, if treatment is not taken in time, this disease can become chronic. The symptoms of bronchiolitis are:
- obstructive syndrome, which leads to wheezing difficulty;
- shortness of breath;
- spastic cough;
- participation in the breathing process of auxiliary muscles;
- an increase in temperature.
Chronic bronchiolitis is a rather serious disease that leads to a deterioration in the passage of air through the bronchioles, and if they become clogged, air does not enter the alveoli of the lungs at all, as a result of which gas exchange is impaired, blood circulation worsens, emphysema may develop.
